Welcome to my website. I am proud to serve you, the citizens of Harris County, Texas as your judge in CCCL #5 since 2003. As a native Houstonian, I am committed to our community, and I have dedicated my twenty-five year career to criminal justice, both as a judge and as a prosecutor. County Criminal Court No. 5: Incumbent Republican Margaret Stewart Harris has served as judge for eight years, and compiled a solid record as an efficient and compassionate jurist. She is a native Houstonian, a graduate of Tulane and UH Law, and was a Harris County prosecutor for 16 years. She has a wide range of endorsements, including those of the Association of Women Attorneys and the Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston. She says she has focused on youthful offenders and has worked hard to try to get a misdemeanor court that exclusively deals with the mentally ill. Says the judge: "We really need folks who are skilled and trained and know how to work within our mental health system."'
